Miguel — Worn Stories (1 of 2 in diptych) 2018
45” x 36”
Original collage artwork (no editions)
Handmade collage on photograph. Deported from the USA, Miguel was
photographed with his American-born son in Tijuana, Mexico. Media includes reproductions of a single personal snapshot provided by Miguel of his son held by his American mother, and an image of the US/Mexico border on Hahnemühle Rice Paper, PH neutral glue, and acrylic gold paint on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper (base print). American Portraits (working title) is an in-progress photo-collage series that considers the vast range of individual stories held within the American people. Each portrait set is a diptych depicting the subject’s familial story across time: the first is a portrait of the subject wearing family photographs, and the second is an imagined site-specific monument to stories the subject shared.
